One thing that’s definitely true is that you have to believe in yourself!! No matter what anyone else thinks, you have to know your materials is the absolute greatest. If you don’t have 1,000% complete faith in what you’re doing, it’s not worth the effort to try to market it. Your own enthusiasm can attract attention or provoke curiosity. A subdued pitch for your music won’t excite anyone. Many musicians called me when my record label was active. I had little interest in those who described their music as “okay,” “pretty good,” or “you’ll see for yourself.” the ones I wanted to hear were those who said their music would blow me away, or similar enthusiastic versions of the concept. Most of them didn’t impress me, but their enthusiasm got me to listen nonetheless. If you get the career, you can get loans easily.
Believing in your music increases your confidence – a quality industry people like. If you find yourself apologizing that you could have done a better job in a better studio, wait until you have the money to go where you can get the quality you want. It’s worth it. Don’t sell yourself short by not putting your best foot forward. Respect yourself and your music by setting high standards. In the long run, this will earn you the respect of others. People do get deals with demos that aren’t the best. But you want to max out your chances.
